Guerlain Crazy Paris Collection Christmas 2013

I adore Guerlain and their Christmas 2013 collection does not disappoint. A beautiful mix of racy neons, glistening iridescent powder sand a Crazy Paris theme for true Parisian elegance, this collection ticks all the right boxes.

The collection combines limited edition loveliness with eye palettes that pop and a range of hot lip shades that they call “insolent, exuberant and  elegant” and I think are just divine.

I could talk you through shade by shade all the elements of the collection, but this is one case where justice is far better served by simply gaze in lust at all the products rather than needing the full rundown. Enjoy!

Is the ScanZ skin sensor the new acne breakthrough?

The big issues around acne is how long will it take for that dreaded bump to vanish. 5 minutes, 5 days, 5 weeks? Numerous products exist to help vanish the spot and whether you’re playing with Proactiv or the Zeno, you know you want the same result. Blemish be gone. ScanZ aims to do this, kinda. Less about the destruction of the pimple, more about the how and the why. ScanZ is a skin scanning sensor with integrated iPhone app that promises to answer your burning acne skin questions.

Which are (according to them)

1. When will it go away?
2. What should I do to make it go away faster?
3. If I don’t have a pimple, will I break out?

Does this sound a little gimmicky to be true? Yes, maybe, but the company have sold investors on the premise, to the tune of 8 million dollars and if it works it could be awesome.

You scan your face with the sensor and then the app “calculates” the answer and give you advice. It doesn’t say it will clear your skin, just give you data on what to do about it.

Cost wise, it might be around $250 which is a LOT for something that just tells you what to do, but if the cost comes down this might be something really innovative in the skin prediction sphere.

Halloween may have come and gone but that doesn’t mean we don’t still want to get our inner goth girl out. Plus, costumes and crazy makeup? Sign me up whenever, y’know?

Makeup artist Katie Alves is impressing me again, this time with her awesome backlight makeup tutorial. She combines regular makeup with some clever ideas to make her “day Bride of Frankenstein look” work in a spooktacular way once seen under blacklight, which is perfect for any kind of club-night party.

Smart way to maximize makeup for both day and night- love this idea.

Wishlist: Jose Eber Infrared blow dryer

How much would you pay for a hairdryer The Jose Eber Infrared blow dryer is not cheap not cheap at all. Yet somehow I’m drawn to it, and part of the reason is the promises it gives out.

The thing is I really hate blow drying my hair. I hate the noise, I hate the time, I just want the process to be done. The Jose Eber Infrared Blowdryer says that it does two awesome things to the hair: Halves the drying time and makes the hair smoother too. How and why?

Well the premise is that by using infrared light (as well as heat) the air shaft dries FROM THE INSIDE OUT. Like, inside of the hair cuticle. Surreal, but very cool.

It also uses a “Blue, ultra violet light provides antimicrobial properties that prevent buildup and bacteria, deodorizing and refreshing hair during styling.” I don’t know if my hair really needs deodorizing, but this is a cool and smart way to solve my drying problem. I haven’t tried this yet, but from reading a bunch of beauty blogs it really does sound like this might be an awesome product.

Christmas wishlist, maybe?

$149.00 from Ulta

Walk of Shame: The Scent

There are scents for every occasion. For joy, for birth, for memory. Fresh baked bread for home, tulips punctuating a trip to Amsterdam and wild daisies fliruishong in fields where the sky is unbroken for miles. Now we have a scent for that not so fortunate moment, the 7.a.m. sidewalk crawl, that comes complete with smudged eyeiner, ousled hair and a guilty – but ideally happy – expression. The famous walk of shame in all its complexity, from proud toe tapping struts, to hobbled blistered walks and matted coarse trails of hair.

Created by perfumers Smell Bent, this scent is designed to accompany you on your tired trek home. At least that’s what they say. Perfume oil is $4 for a sample, so at least you can know if it’s worth it for cheap. unlike that night!

The best brand you’ve never heard of: Image Skincare

Image Skincare Prevention SPF50+Moisturizer in one

Summer is here, and with the sweltering heat and the sweaty pits is an awareness that I need to get protected and stay protected. Leather is so handbags not face, y’know. Image Skincare has been one of my secret loves for years, in part as it’s so damn hard to find a place to get it. First introduced by a London facialist, it is one of those brands that’s generally sold in salons On one hand, that’s good as you’ll be taught how to use it effectively, on the other hand, you look askance as it’s recommended as everyone hates the hard sell- facials are expensive, remember? So, despite Googling for all of 5 minutes I can’t give you a price (sorry) but can link you to their website where you can make enquiries. Annoying, huh?

But so, so worth it.

Basically the Image Skincare Prevention and daily ultimate protection moisturizer SPF 50 is GREAT. It’s lightweight and feels really nice to apply, sinks in quickly, doesn’t make you break out and gives you the kind of glow where people think you’ve been eating well/working out (if only they knew).

Creepy Kitty Candle: The Devil’s Pet

With Halloween in the offing it’s time to get your creepy beauty hat on and this candle is the epitome of weird.

Named the “Devil’s Candle” it’s the kitty cat from hell. When you first see it, it looks like a sweet pink candle, a generally innocuous item. When you light it, well, that’s another matter. As it burns down, a skeleton is revealed, a dark design that makes a statement about how not to depend on the outside.. or maybe just that artist Thorunn Arnadottir is a little bit twisted.

No price as yet, as the artist is trying to crowdfund its creation. So you can have a say in whether this becomes a reality.. or not. No judgment here.

Sign up here to be on the creepy kitty candle waiting list.

Hair valet from Marcy McKenna for frail females

I’m at loss for word for this hair valet. On one hand it’s impossibly amazing and would save so much stress on holidays, on nights out, arguing with girls at the office.. but .. but..

It’s enormous, it’s a little obscene, it’s a kinda horrendous shade of pink , and wtf has my life become if I look at this and think hey, this could really solve a great first world problem I’ve been having?

Clearly it’s a common problem, hence the blurb:

‘Revolutionizing the hair styling experience everywhere, The Style and Go Hair Care Valet is a wall mounted electrical hair care cabinet that allows you to use your hair appliances from the same place that you store them. Your own personal styling salon—saves time, saves space, saves energy.’

It goes on, but you get the gist.

Oh, but did I mention the final last sexist piece they impart?

‘Easy installation. No husband required!’

Well thank god for that, as I don’t see a husband/friend/housemate putting up with me wanting a giant cabinet dedicated to my styling tools.

Get it here if you must.
