MAC 2013 collections: Muscles, Snakes and sheer

It’s no secret I love MAC makeup- yes me and the rest of the world- and one of my favorite things is to drool over the amazing images they shoot with their latest collections. In pure eye candy style, I’ve decided to show you some of the most luscious looks available from MAC at the moment.

MAC Strength Collection

I love that MAC used a strong woman to front this- literally with those biceps. The color range is bold and bright – a dusky red lip and tawny bronzers.

Hybris Cosmetics: Prototype prestige packaging

There’s something very exciting about a prototype. Sure, it may never happen, but I love the ingenuity and creativity that goes into the manufacturing and mockups of possible packaging.. and some things we look at today might be the big hitters tomorrow. May I remind you of the wet/dry straighteners and the cleansers with attached brush heads? They all started life like this, and look how big they got!

Hybris is the inspiration of Israeli Dafna Aizenberg. She was told to create a brand that drew inspiration from ‘Urbanity, Pedro Almodovar’s creations, fashion and a paint shop’, for her branding course.  (don’t you love vague school projects?)

What she came up with was Hybris, a design that manages to look both decadent and delicious, with a candy like exterior that would definitely fall into the gourmand section of Harrods.

Miss Selfridge Eye Shadow cream pot : Blast from past

I was going through my makeup collection the other day and stumbled upon a product so old they don’t make it anymore. And the brand doesn’t exist. And people born after 1996 will probably never have heard of this. This is Miss Selfridge own brand makeup, purchased appoximately 1995, and combines 4 metallic cream shadows in a stacking pot. I had to have a little play- on my hand, not my face!- before discarding it, and I was amazed at the memories it brought back.

Nights dancing in London clubs, practicing using liquid eyeliner for the first time, sticking glitter on over the cream for what I thought was a ‘cool’ look; makeup has so many stories and memories and this little pot brought up so much. The colours were still fairly vibrant, and though I won’t risk using it, I admired the swatches on my hand. Remember when Miss S used that heart design?

Illamasqua Generation Q : Beauty isn’t a number

Every generation has its own icons and anti-heroes, and we’ve seamlessly melded from Gen Y to Gen X with a dash of ecstasy and a smattering of celeb culture. Douglas Coupland wrote an amazing satirical tale about the Generation A folk, and how mass hysteria lead to over medication for depression and how nature is being destroyed by sensationalism and manufacturing. Coupland may write of a distant future, yet his predictions are still believable, and the idea of ageing and its stigma is ever present in a society built on a body beautiful premise.

Illamasqua is trying to use their beauty brand to break down this barrier- suggesting that makeup is not an age related option, and be you twenty or eighty , you can still enjoy it. Their motto is ‘inclusive’ and to this effect they have the stylish Evelyn as their model for the Gen Q campaign- glam at 72 years!

Generation Q is a celebration of beauty, ageless and without limits or restrictions. It’s our belief that beauty should be inclusive and not exclusive; a clear message to everybody everywhere that beauty is not young, old, black, white, male or female but everyone, everything and anything!

Evelyn is ridiculously eye catching and her presence is such that this campaign feels like a cool drink of water- it’s amazing to start getting diversity in beauty brands. The products on this range are designed to work with all skin types and all races; and amazingly they’re not all neutrals!

We pay a lot of attention to beautiful tattoos and stunning clothing, and I think it’s time eye makeup had its share of the spotlight. Confused? You won’t be after you’ve gazed at the following photos. There are some seriously talented folk out there, and this is just a short overview of some of the images and styles they are creating with sheer ingenuity and a makeup blending brush. It has me tempted to try something as well but where to start? Here are my current five favourite eye makeup artistic displays. (See Bow Eye Makeup Art above!)

RMK 15TH Anniversary cheek palette

Palettes are my beauty nirvana and I can’t believe this limited edition lovely from RMK escaped my radar for so long. It has been created to celebrate the 15th Anniversary of RMK.

RMK is the top selling beauty brand in Japan and was created in 1997 by a former makeup artist. Everything in the brand is top quality, blends well and gives the skin a lovely sheen. To celebrate their 15th anniversary two cheek palettes have been created in shades Pink Coral and Brown Beige.

Each consist of 6 colour petals placed together to create a stunning look, though this palette is way to pretty to actually use. YES, I do COLLECT makeup- want to make something of that? I love the little girl drawing on the palette- a mixture of butterfly meets fairy I think!
