Buy now or forever hold your peace: Last of the summer styles

The sun might be shining now, but winter is knocking on the door. The weather isn’t exactly a good indicator of the UK’s changing seasons – did we even have summer? – but fashion certainly is. Before we’ve even enjoyed the August bank holiday fashion stores are already revealing their cards; winter fashion looks hot to trot. It’s rich and opulent, gothic and grungy, feminine but androgynous, moody but bold – in sum it is something to get excited about.

However, summer is not yet over. With the summer largely being a washout, weathermen are promising us an Indian summer; whether this is true or not remains to be seen, but we can at least make the most of these last fleeting moments in the latest footwear. Before long our toes will be hidden away in boots and courts. But until then wedge sandals and sky-high strappies rule the day.

Silver Strappy Wedges, £45

Raffia, espadrille style soles combined with silver strappy uppers give these wedges sandals from Next serious longevity. Metallics have been popular for the past two season, and actually continue to work their magic for winter 12/13. Although these are decidedly summery, they could carry well into autumn if we do get that Indian summer as promised.

T-Bar Sandals, £22

Next’s collection of ladies shoes was spot on this summer; it got stuck in, 100%, to the animal print trend and these T-bar sandals are the perfect example of just how well it did it. Just a touch of animal print across the toes, combined with gold, metallic t-strap and patent ankle straps give these sandals a luxe look that will last the test of time. These ladies shoes are a real bargain too at just £22 per pair – get two; they also come in snakeskin.

Tan Leather Wedges, £45 (pictured)

Wedge sandals were and continue to be must-have ladies shoes. We love their light brown pair boasting lattice detailing, chunky straps and woven raffia souls. These look great with jeans, skirts or maxis and will definitely be suitable for round two next summer.
