Nooka candles from the watchmakers

I’m a fan of the Nooka brand, but not in a beauty way- I love their funky wristwatches and the fact they make candles has thrown me a little. Hey, I’m trying not to judge and these offerings look lovely. The candles come in different colours and scents and are an ‘amalgam of different notes evoking feelings, objects or nature—creating a unique experience.  There are notes of forest, skin, and electricity.

OK then.. electricity huh? Hmm.

Martha Stewart Halloween Cover: Scary stuff

Normally I’m a big fan of slightly aged celebs not acting their age. I love Betsey Johnson, think Madonna and her weird macro-bio stuff is great, but this image of Martha Stewart I saw on The Gloss kinda gives me the creeps. OK, she’s trying to be playful, but those Lady GaGa-esque butterfly wing things say less Shu Uemura and more Morticia Addams on a IV drip. I mean this is Martha Stewart for gods sake, the woman who practically invented the term twinset and I don’t know if she starts wanting to be edgy this is the right place to begin. Maybe a little glitter and/or some leather? Is full on butterflies really the right way to go?

I mean she DOES look amazing for 70 years old (I know!) but to this look I have to give Martha’s Gaga dreams a firm thumbs down. Just say no to the stylist love- we know you can!

Champagne and Wine candles for the discerning snifter

Now I’m not really a wine girl in general- I find it a little bitter and much prefer something sugar-filled and sweet like a Vodka Cranberry. However, I am partial to the odd glass of campers, so I’m catered for with these adorable champagne and wine candles from Vat 19.

Each goblet has been heat tempered to help create the stunning shape and has been filled with scented gel wax to work as a beautiful candle. They’ve even tried to scent the candles with liquor, the Red and and White Wine Candles feature Merlot and chardonnay scents and last for 25 hours whilst the Champagne Glass Candle features a white cake scent (weird, huh?) and has a 20 hour lifespan.

You can actually reuse these when your candle has been burnt, as the glasses are dishwasher safe! I don’t know if I’d want to drink from these knowing what I’d used them for, but they are very beautiful and I like the eco-concept.

From $13.95 at VAT19

Oral B Pro-Expert Toothpaste Review

How do you get a beauty journalist to write about a toothpaste? It’s a tricky dilemma as toothpaste definitely lacks the sex factor, and whilst sparkly teeth are great, it’s hard to go OTT over a tube. Oral B have ventured into the toothpaste market- a new thing for them oddly enough, as they’ve been making toothbrushes and the like for years. This new product apparently is ‘the next chapter of toothpaste technology,’ but I was more excited about the USB stick that accompanied it- a mini Oral B pro-Expert Toothpaste. Too cute! Once I’d got over how adorable the USB stick was (Note: V Clever idea) I actually tried the toothpaste.

It tasted like toothpaste, minty, slightly grainy, left my teeth feeling clean. I can’t attest that this is THE BEST TOOTHPASTE ever, as frankly I’m not sure I’ll ever go that crazy over a toothpaste, but it works, the science behind it seems sound and I’m in love with the mini USB stick.  That’s a fair summation right?

There’s a lot of sciencey stuff to back up the qualities of this product, from how it combines an antibacterial fluoride with Active Clean Crystals (why it’s a bit gritty), and they’ve got lots of stats comparing it to other brands, saying that this is a better way of preventing cavities and tartar build up. As I said, I trust their research and it’s a good price for a toothpaste, so you can’t really lose here.

£3.49 from Boots (Note: USB stick not packaged with it for customers).

Marc Jacobs Makeup by NARS @ NYFW S/S 12

New York Fashion week S/S 12 (stand for Spring/Summer) is now over, and the stress of London Fashion Week has begun. I though I;d share with you one of my favourite look from the New York Runways, that which was seen at Marc Jacobs. As much as I love crazy beauty looks ( and I do) there’s something very nice about seeing something so wearable and easy to replicate, and as the makeup was all created by Francois Nars using NARS products, recreating this is only a beauty counter away.

The look was inspired by rock divas of yesteryear, think Patsy Klein and Amy Winehouse and it was all about glossy lips, smooth skin and black, black eyes. Think eyeliner, mascara and more mascara… A well defined eyebrow helps frame the face and there’s something very winsome and delicate about this style- rarely have I seen a face chart followed so precisely.

Estelle and Thild Ecorganic Cleansing Gel product Review

The brand Estelle and Thild is still fairly rare in the UK, but this Swedish Organic line is fantastic- a great diverse range and I’ve been enjoying testing out their Ecorganic Cleansing Gel.

Scented with Neroli, it lathers up nicely with water and-is really like have an essential oil massage in the morning and night. very gentle to use, it efficiently gets rid of all dirt and makeup and leaves the skin feeling smooth and soft-with no hint of tightness or squeakiness.

Ingerdients include aloe vera and cornflower for their refreshing properties and it’s great to apply, as the mixture has a gel like texture without being viscous- almost a mix between a cream and a gel really. The fragrance is subtle but delicious and I’m glad to note there’s no hint of rose (a personal bugaboo), just delicious ingredients that leave the face feeling refreshed and bright.

£18.50 from Beauttique
